The Brahmapur (Home of Lord Brahma)
city is a municipal corporation located on the eastern coastline of Ganjam
district of Odisha, one of the states of India. Berhampur is morely known as
“The Silk city” by all Indians. The city is about 169 kilometers (105 mi) south
of Bhubaneswar, the state capital. It is one of the oldest and largest cities
of Odisha and also famous for its Silk saris, temples and its unique culture.
It is the fourth most populous urban city in Odisha and 122nd in
India.

are males and170239 are females. The effective literacy rate is 90.04% which is
higher than the national average of 74.04%. Berhampur is 15 kms from Gopalpur
sea beach.
Administration:
The
Berhampur city is administered by the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC). K
Madhavi is the present mayor of BMC. This organization earlier was a
municipality from 1867 until 29 Dec 2008. The Revenue Division of Commission (RDC)
of South zone and the Regional Office of Department of Postsout of 3 Regions of
Odisha are located at Berhampur which covers undivided Ganjam, undivided
Koraput, Kandhamal, Kalahandi districts.
